Common Core State Standards:

Professional Development for Successful Implementation

Common Core State Standards Initiative (CCSSI) is a state-led effort coordinated by the National Governor’s Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO).

As you know, governors and state commissioners of education have committed to developing a common core of state standards that provide consistent expectations for what is taught in grades K-12, as well as benchmarks for achievement. These new standards are already being rolled out  in various school districts. Editure is able to support you in your endeavors to integrate the content and pedagogy of the new core standards into the daily instruction at your school.

According to the National Governor’s Association, the Common Core State Standards:

  • Are aligned with college and work expectations, and are clear and consistent;
  • Include rigorous content and application of knowledge through high-order skills;
  • Build upon strengths and lessons of current state standards; and
  • Are informed by other top performing countries, so that students are prepared to succeed in our global society. For more information: http://www.corestandards.org/

Many know Editure because of our expertise in literacy, math, science and social studies—but did you know that we:

  • Support schools as they unpack and make sense of the new common core standards for teachers, administrators and parents.  Additionally, Editure can assist schools in aligning the new common core standards with existing curricula and instruction. This includes embedding the new standards into your current curriculum maps.
  • Have developed a database that manages the authentic literacy data collected by teachers. This database creates graphs and reports that help teachers analyze assessment data and inform instruction.
  • Have created rubrics aligned to the common core standards that provide a systematic, developmental, standards-based approach to monitoring the development of reading strategies for emergent and fluent readers. We can assist schools in developing their own rubrics as well.
  • Provide support and guidance as teachers and administrators begin to tackle and try to understand the concept of text complexity and its instructional implications.
